2017 Graduate Student Activity
The Law and Society Association is pleased to announce the 2017 Graduate Student Activity held in conjunction with the 2017 International Meeting on Law and Society in Mexico City, Mexico, June 20-23. The workshop will be held from late afternoon into the evening on Wednesday, June 21st. The program will consist of plenary speakers, breakout sessions, and an informal networking reception.
The goals are to:
- build intellectual community among the next generation of Law and Society scholars;
- foster collegial networks among graduate students and leading faculty in the field;
- promote dialogue about student research; and
- enhance professional development around research, publishing, and career paths in socio-legal studies.
Any graduate student attending the meeting is welcome to attend the workshop by registering for it along with their conference registration in early February 2017. We encourage all participants to consider becoming an LSA student member, but it is not a prerequisite for attendance.
Travel Funding for Graduate Students
For funding to attend the meeting and the workshop, students are encouraged to inquire with their home institutions and a national or regional sociolegal association in their area. For doctoral students whose country of permanent residence is in Latin America, the Centro de Investigacion y Docencia Economicas (CIDE) in Mexico City is offering a stipend of up to $1000 to cover airfare for 10 students. For eligibility requirements and application information, contact Paola Thompson at email@example.com.
Graduate student members of the Law and Society Association may apply for travel subsidies of $500 toward the cost of attending the meeting and workshop. Applicants must be 2017 members of the Law and Society Association (2017 memberships available in early October) and must have submitted to present at the 2017 meeting (the deadline for submission is October 18, 2016). We invite applications from graduate students in any field, including advanced law students, whose scholarly interests involve socio-legal studies. (Note that an individual student may receive funding for no more than two Graduate Student Workshops or Activities during his/her graduate career.)
Please complete the application form and related requirements by November 1st, 2016 to be considered for the Graduate Student travel subsidy. Applicants selected for the subsidy will be informed the first week of January 2017, contingent on acceptance of their conference submissions.
All supporting documents must be submitted in English and be in .DOC, .RTF, or .PDF format. For questions regarding the LSA funding, please contact Caitlin McDonald at firstname.lastname@example.org.
