Global Capitalism & Law Colloquium 2018

The Global Capitalism & Law Research Group invites you and relevant colleagues to participate in the second interdisciplinary regional colloquium on Global Capitalism and Law. Organized in conjunction with the American Bar Foundation, this colloquium seeks to build liaisons, improve work in progress, mentor graduate students, and promote interdisciplinary conversations across the disciplines of law, political science, philosophy, sociology, history, economics, and anthropology.

Date: May 31–June 1, 2018

Faculty, visiting scholars, post-doctoral researchers, and advanced graduate students are invited to submit papers that represent work in progress. We invite both single-discipline and multi-discipline research that examines global capitalism, and/or the intersection between local/national and global markets, politics and society anywhere in the world (including the U.S.).

The study of capitalism can include the study of markets, finance, and the effects of the capitalist system on law, politics, groups, people, and normative orders. Our conception of law is broad, including hard or soft law; legal processes, such as mediation, arbitration and adjudication; legal and quasi-legal institutions, such as treaties, executive bodies, regulatory agencies, etc.; and global norm-making, including private lawmaking bodies. Participation: We will confirm your acceptance, and our goal is to include everyone. If necessary, priority will be given to faculty and advanced graduate students whose primary research agenda focuses on global capitalism and law. Visiting faculty are welcome to participate. Call for Papers deadline: January 30, 2018
